New Virginia Majority Newsletter: June 2021

Thank you for your continued support for New Virginia Majority! June has been an exciting month - in addition to our ongoing long-term organizing work, we mobilized thousands of voters for the June 8 Primary. Here’s a short update on what we’ve been working on:

Virginia Democratic Primary Election Wrap Up

Our political team knocked on 248,939 doors, made 175,572 phone calls, and sent 15,389 text messages to get our communities out to the polls on June 8th. This election had record early vote turnout, with 120,325 Virginians voting early compared to just 26,575 in 2017 -- thanks to laws passed in 2020 and 2021 that expanded voting accessibility.

Victory! Our endorsed candidate Ramin Fatehi won the Democratic Primary for Commonwealth’s Attorney in Norfolk, and we look forward to supporting his campaign in November. Commonwealth’s Attorneys serve a crucial role in reducing Virginia's dependence on incarceration and minimizing racial disparities in the criminal legal system. Read our press release about Fatehi’s win.

Town Hall for Housing Justice

The Loudoun Housing Justice Coalition is a diverse coalition of community organizations that came together at the beginning of 2021 to raise awareness about the housing crisis and advocate for housing justice for Loudoun’s working-class families. The median rent in Loudoun is $1,646/month, which is unattainable for many working-class families.

On June 30, hear from members of the Loudoun Housing Justice Coalition as they share stories about the impact of unaffordable housing in Loudoun County. RSVP for the Loudoun Housing Stories Town Hall on June 30th at 7:00pm to 8:30pm via Zoom.
