NVM Statement on Renee Good’s Murder by ICE

Renee Good was murdered in plain daylight in Minnesota by ICE agents on January 7, and her death was senseless and unprovoked. ICE is acting with impunity, violating the rights of American citizens and our neighbors and those actions are now responsible for the death of an American citizen.

There is no justification for the level of violence that continues to be used against immigrant communities, and our hearts are with her family and loved ones as they grieve this tragic and unjust loss. We urge Congress to fulfill its constitutional duty by holding ICE and DHS accountable for placing communities in danger.

At NVM, we will continue to defend our immigrant members and communities on every level of government, and to organize members in our local chapters throughout to support mutual aid, civic engagement, and stand with our neighbors.

The promise of America is based on a set of fundamental freedoms that continue to draw people to our nation today. All of us–regardless of immigration status–are due the freedom to exist without living in fear of atrocities and capital punishment when we leave our homes. We urge community members and allies to channel their grief and outrage into peaceful protest and civic action. Our collective power lies in protecting one another and demanding justice.
