Loudoun Residents to Line Up Overnight for Housing Choice Vouchers
Leesburg, Va. - On October 5, 2023 at 1 a.m., New Virginia Majority (NVM) organizers will gather with Loudoun residents to line up overnight to obtain one of 300 available spots on the Housing Choice Voucher program waitlist, which will open that morning at 8:30 a.m.outside the Department of Housing and Community Development (106 Catoctin Circle SE).
NVM organizers have led a working group of tenants, community members, and allies to move the Loudoun County Department of Housing and Community Development into action by sharing testimonies, speaking at meetings, and participating in different actions fighting for a housing voucher program, and this one will be open to any family that has at least one family member (adult or child) with citizenship.
NVM lead organizer Isamar Ortega said, “This is a great advance on the housing issue. We know that there is much to do, and we must continue advocating for an increased budget for the development of fair and dignified housing options for all.”
“We are glad for this progress. This voucher program would give a respite to 300 families who have not yet recovered from the pandemic. We will continue to fight for housing that is paid for according to incomes,” said Ismael Perez, a local resident and NVM member.
