Here’s a recap of our June activities, highlighting our ongoing efforts to expand democracy:
Leadership Council Graduation
- On Saturday, June 22, thirty dedicated members from our Leadership Council workshops officially graduated our program. We wrapped up with a mock candidate interview session and graduation ceremony in Fredericksburg.
- The members of the leadership council are trained on public speaking and storytelling, and how to engage with elected officials. They have also worked to identify areas where the issues they’re working on intersect with each other to build multi-racial, multi-ethnic solidarity. We’re thankful for their commitment and passion. Congratulations graduates!

Tenants and Workers United (TWU)
- TWU teamed up with Virginians Organized for Interfaith Community Engagement (VOICE) to do nonpartisan GOTV work in Alexandria’s diverse West End and Arlandria communities, knocking on over 3,200 doors to encourage voters to make their voices heard in Alexandria City’s primary elections.
- Our Social Justice Club at Alexandria City High School hosted their last meeting of the school year where youth celebrated their accomplishments and talked about new goals for the year ahead. Stay tuned as our Summer Youth Institute kicks off in Woodbridge very soon!

- In May, the Virginia General Assembly reached a budget deal. New policies will come into effect July 1, 2024. Read our 2024 Legislative Outcomes to stay abreast.
New Virginia Majority Political Team
- The political team wrapped up its June Primary work in Alexandria! Congratulations to Alyia Gaskins, Canek Aguirre, Sarah Bagley, and Kirk McPike on their victories! With help from our staff and volunteers, we attempted to contact over 33,000 voters! Stay tuned as we prepare for our summer voter outreach work ahead of November's General Election!
