Community Members to Hold Restoration of Rights March and Rally

New Virginia Majority
February 18, 2022

Richmond, Va. - On February 21, 2022, at 11 a.m., New Virginia Majority organizers will hold a Restoration of Rights Rally. The car rally and march toward the Capitol will begin at New Life Deliverance Tabernacle on 900 Decatur Street.

New Virginia Majority members from throughout the state will gather and follow the march route in their cars. Although the march is being held during Black History Month, the march will center around the restoration of voting rights for formerly incarcerated citizens, which is currently under review in the General Assembly. Currently, the Governor’s office must choose whether or not to allow returning citizens to regain civil rights. This process can take time, negating the freedom of returning citizens.

“Thousands of men and women are disenfranchised due to a Jim Crow era law that still exists today, one which needs to be abolished. Why must people come home only to not be fully free,” said Roger Hunt, a community organizer with New Virginia Majority.
