New Virginia Majority Members Urge Board Members to Fully Fund School Budget and Housing Voucher Program
On February 27 at 5:30 p.m. at the Loudoun County Government Center (Harrison St SE, Leesburg, Va.), New Virginia Majority members will hold a press conference ahead of the Loudoun County public budget hearing to urge board members to vote for funding for the school budget and housing voucher program.
“Loudoun has no shortage of resources to invest in the wellbeing of its residents. We call on the board to stand with working families by fully funding the school budget and allocating $10 million of its housing funds to create a local housing voucher program which will provide much needed rent relief to families struggling to get by,” said NVM organizer Sofia Saiyed.
Working families in Loudoun County face interconnected challenges of unaffordable housing and inaccessible childcare. By creating inclusive solutions like housing vouchers and after-school programs that serve all residents, we strengthen our entire community. 42.4% of Loudoun renters are cost-burdened, spending over 30% of income on rent, and often have to choose between paying rent and paying for after school programs.
