New Virginia Majority Response to Protests in Virginia and Beyond
Earlier this week we responded to the protests happening across our state and the nation, and know we are at a crossroads. It is time to demand more from our leaders and support each other through action. To read our statement, click here.
Cancel Rent Campaign
Throughout the COVID-19 crisis, we have continued to organize, advocate, and vote to demand justice, progress, and safety for our communities. One of the most important issues that we have been working on is the #CancelRent campaign. Because of the pandemic raving our country, many of our neighbors have lost their jobs, and are unable to pay their rent, through no fault of their own.
On May 1, we held car rally/cacerolazo events in Loudoun County, Arlington, Alexandria, Richmond and Norfolk to urge rent and eviction cancellations. Hundreds of people showed up in solidarity, and we are continuing to organize with tenants to ensure that their struggles and demands are heard.
COVID-19 Relief Fund Update
So far we’ve raised over $10,000 for our members who have been impacted by COVID-19, but this pandmic is ongoing and there’s still so much more need in our communities.
Our goal is to be able to support and lend a hand in one way or another to the most vulnerable and active community members during this pandemic, specifically in regions of Virginia where we have community organizing chapters and hubs.
If you can, please contribute to our COVID-19 Relief Fund to provide direct monetary assistance to our community members who have given so much of their time into building a more just and sustainable Virginia for all of us.
In solidarity,
New Virginia Majority
